POLICULTIVO
“Policultivo ALESPI” is a project that integrates agribusiness development with climate change adaptation and community resilience. Through the cultivation of ginger, plantains, culantro, yautía (taro root), sweet peppers, vegetables, and other crops, it provides field experiences that promote efficient and profitable techniques.
Objectives:
- Awaken interest in natural sciences.
- Expand agribusiness knowledge.
- Train young leaders.
- Promote home gardening practices to address food insecurity.
Educational Experiences:
- Planning planting and crop rotation.
- Soil preparation and sowing.
- Crop management: irrigation, fertilization, and pruning.
- Climate change adaptation.
- Harvesting, packaging, and storing crops.
- Pricing, promotion, and sales.
The “Policultivo ALESPI” project offers comprehensive training that combines theory and practice, promoting agribusiness development and food security in the community.
Social Commitment:
As part of its social commitment, the project collaborates with the Food Bank of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture to distribute monthly food boxes to over 150 families (mostly elderly individuals) at risk of food insecurity. These boxes include fresh produce along with other products, providing support to vulnerable individuals and families.
This initiative reinforces the positive impact of “Policultivo ALESPI” in the community, combining training with direct action to combat hunger and promote access to nutritious food.
